2nd-3rd November 2024

(from left):  Alice and Elise

On the 2nd and 3rd of November, the David Ward Hunt Cup took place. This is an international competition for individual trampoline, synchronized trampoline and DMT that takes place biannually. Qualifications for each group took place on the Saturday and finals for the top 8 competitors of each group on the Sunday.

Two Hi-Tension gymnasts took part in the event which was their first international competition.

First up on the Saturday morning, was Elise in the 15-16 F category. In order to compete, gymnasts had to perform certain skills in their set exercise. For the 15-16 age group this included a double somersault, a somersault with at least 540″ twisting rotation, a somersault landing on the back or front of the body and a somersault off of the back or front. The second exercise is a voluntary routine but had to be at least as difficult as the first exercise. Elise received some great HD scores of 9.6 and 9.5 for her routines respectively, finishing with a score of 77.580 which placed her in 30th place in a very competitive group.

Bouncing in the afternoon, Alice was in the 17-21 F category. In this group, gymnasts have no set routine, instead competing two voluntary routines with the highest scoring exercise determining who qualified to the final on the Sunday. Gymnasts could also only perform a maximum of one body landing in the routine. Alice’s first routine produced some good execution scores, achieving 15.3 which contributed to her total of 43.840. Unable to improve on her voluntary routine, she finished 14th in a very difficult group.

National League Finals- Derby

26th-27th October 2024

Derby Arena

The 26th and 27th October saw the long-awaited 2024 League Finals take place in Derby, which was the 10th anniversary of League Finals making it an extra special event.

Gymnasts from across the UK obtained a spot to compete in the event based on their total points score earned at the 3 previous qualifiers. At League 3, the top 24 gymnasts qualify and at League 2 the top 20.

Four gymnasts from Hi-Tension had succeeded in qualifying for this prestigious event, with each one hoping to obtain a place on the Saturday for the top 8 final held on the Sunday.

First up for the club on Saturday morning was Hollie competing in the League 3 14+ F category. She achieved some excellent ToF scores on both routines and achieved an overall score of 78.91. This placed her 14th, an improvement of 10 places from her qualifying position.

Kat was up next in the League 3 17-18 F category. After a slightly wobbly set routine, a strong score of 42.83 for her voluntary routine secured her a total of 80.10 and 8th place, which meant she had qualified for the top 8 final the next day and a chance to win a medal.

Competing after Kat was Alice in the League 2 19+ F category. She competed in a very tight group. Her neat execution scores and good HD contributed to her score of 82.28 securing her 11th place. She was in a very tight group, missing out on 8th place by only 0.13 points.

Hi-Tension’s final competitor on the Saturday was Elise in the League 3 16+ F category. A strong first routine with a high execution score and good ToF helped her to earn a total of 79.76 and 8th place. This meant she would, like Kat, compete in the top 8 finals the next day in a bid for a medal.

Kat’s final was first on the Sunday. In the top 8 final all scores are reset to zero and gymnasts only compete their voluntary routine. Kat jumped high and scored well, improving on her voluntary score from the Saturday, achieving 43.49. Unfortunately, she missed out on the bronze medal by 0.13, finishing 4th.

Bouncing in her final, Elise also achieved a high ToF and a good HD score of 9.7, attracting her a total of 43.99. Like Kat though, she finished 4th only 0.3 away from a podium finish.

English Championships Final- Telford

19th-20th October 2024

On the weekend of the 19th-20th October, the English Championships Final took place in Telford.

One gymnast from Hi-Tension qualified based on the results of the previous two qualifiers that took place in June and July.

Elise competed on Sunday in the 15-16 F Silver category. At this level, gymnasts have no compulsory set routine but must compete specific skills depending on their age group. At the 15-16 age group, this included a double somersault, a somersault with at least 540˚ twisting rotation, a somersault landing on the back or front of the body and a somersault off of the back or front. Gymnasts also have a voluntary routine where they can compete any skill they like as long as they do not exceed the maximum difficulty. In a field of 34 gymnasts, Elise finished 19th with a score of 76.840, achieving some excellent HD scores of 9.8 and 9.6 on her first and second exercise respectively.

Back Row: Alice, Elise, Katarina and Hollie

Front Row: Scarlett and Joella

The 14th and 15th September saw the third and final National League Qualifier take place. Six Hi-Tension gymnasts took part for their last chance to bag enough points to qualify for the prestigious National League Finals held in late October.

Scarlett was up first on the Saturday in the League 3 15+ F Category. She achieved good execution scores and a strong HD of 9.6 on her set exercise which was enough to put her in 18th place with a score of 74.31. As a result, she achieved 7 League points.

Up next was Hollie, a good HD on both routines and a high ToF meant that she finished 11th in the League 3 14+ F Category with a total of 77.70. This gave her 18 points to add to her previous total of league points.

The club’s final competitor on the Saturday was Joella. She tried out a tricky new voluntary routine which along with her set produced some great execution scores giving her a score of 78.11 so that she finished 18th in the League 3 17-18 F Category. This, as for Scarlett, corresponded to 7 League points.

Elise was up first on the Sunday in the League 2 15-16 F Category. She achieved high identical HD scores on both exercises of 9.6 and a good ToF to end up 9th in her group with a score of 79.12, just missing out on the top 8 and a chance to compete for a medal. She achieved 24 League points with this result.

Next up was Katarina in the League 2 17-18 F. Her first routine begun well with good ToF and execution scores placing her 8th for her first routine alone. Unfortunately, she was marked out of 9 for her second routine and finished 13th with a total of 75.42.

To round off the weekend, it was Alice’s turn on the trampolines. She managed to produce a neat set routine, despite her second move almost travelling off the end of the trampoline, which gave her some high execution scores and a HD of 9.6. She also completed a strong voluntary exercise even though she was forced to improvise. The repeat of a skill cost her 0.7 in difficulty and a place in the top 8 final. She finished 14th in the League 2 F 19+ Category with 79.96, achieving 12 League points.

Hollie and Alice

On the weekend of 6th -7th July gymnasts from across the UK came together to compete in the Inter-Regional Challenge Cup Final in Birmingham.

Two gymnasts from Hi-Tension qualified for the prestigious national event at the Regional Final held in April in Cambridge where they successfully finished in the top 3 to be invited to represent Team East in trampolining.

First up was Hollie on the Saturday. She competed in the first flight of the level 1 women 13-17 category and received good execution scores and a high time of flight which saw her finish 1st in her flight. After a nervous wait for another two flights to compete, Hollie had dropped only two places earning her the bronze medal in a field of 26 competitors with a total score of 79.39.

On Sunday, the level 3 and level 4 gymnasts took to the trampolines including Alice. She competed in the level 4 women 17+ category and finished two neat routines including excellent HD scores, scoring a 9.8 HD on her voluntary routine. This placed her 10th in a very competitive field of 31 competitors with a score of 81.55.

Gymnasts who finish in the top 8 contribute to the total points score for their region. To top off the weekend, on Sunday afternoon it was announced that, once again, Team East would take home the title of Inter-Regional Challenge Cup Champion in trampolining.

National League Qualifier 2 – Cardiff

01 – 02 June 2024

Back Row: Elise and Katarina

Front Row: Hollie, Alice, Joella, Scarlett

The second National League qualifier took place over the weekend of 01 and 02 June and six gymnasts from our Elite Squad travelled to Cardiff to compete.

Joella was first up on Saturday morning in the League 3 Female 17-18 category. She executed  a tidy first exercise, attracting an excellent 9.7 score for HD.  An uncontrolled out bounce on her second exercise cost her a whole mark, giving her a total score of 72.21 and 32nd place.

Next was Scarlett, making her National League debut in the League 3 Female 15+ category. She executed 2 tidy exercises, attracting an overall score of 75.60 and 31st place.

Hollie rounded off Hi-Tension’s involvement in Saturday’s competition. She also made her National League debut competing in the League 3 Female 14+ category.  She achieved excellent execution scores in both of her exercises, giving her a total of 76.40 and 24th place, earning her first league point.

Alice kicked off Sunday for us in the League 2 Female 19+ category. She performed two excellent exercises earning an overall score of 83.47.  This put her in 8th place with 28 league points and an invite to the zero final.  Having competed last in the preliminaries, she did not have long to wait for her final.  Alice retained her poise to carry out a tidy final routine and climb up to 5th place.

Moving up a level this time, Katarina competed the League 2 Female 17-18 category.  Nerves affected her performance in her first exercise, but she avoided the end deck and completed 10 moves.  More settled for her second exercise she earned good scores for a total of 80.88 and 9th place and 24 league points.

Also moving up, Elise competed in the League 2 Female 15-16 category.  Jumping high and neatly in her first exercise she received good scores. However, in her second exercise, overrotating her double back, she couldn’t control take off for the next move and crashed out. Her overall score was 40.97 and 27th place.

To round the weekend off, Alice and Katarina once more took to the trampoline to compete in 19+ Mixed Synchro category. In synchro, pairs perform their exercises side by side and are scored for execution, difficulty, travel and synchronisation. They compete twice with the higher score counting.  This is a mixed ability category with no tariff cap so Alice and Katarina were up against some very skilled and experienced pairs.  They secured a good score from their first exercise which put them in 12th place, but were unable to improve in their second exercise, eventually finishing in 14th place with a score of 32.22.
