About Hi-Tension TC

What we do and why we love trampolining

Our Story

Hi-Tension TC has been running in various guises for over 40 years, initially as Colchester Trampoline Club and then as Hi-Tension TC from 1987.

The club is affiliated to British Gymnastics and is based at Colchester Leisure World.

The aims and objectives of Hi-Tension TC are to promote the sport of trampolining – at all levels – in the Colchester area and the British Gymnastics – Eastern Division.

The club aims to provide advanced, comprehensive training thereby enabling Competition Squad members to participate in competitions at various levels including the Challenge Cup Competitions, Opens, National League and English/British Championships. The club currently has a highly successful competition squad made up of 12 members.

At Hi-Tension we currently have over 100 members (including coaches, judges and club welfare officers). Gymnasts range in age from 5-18, and our club has a total of 7 qualified coaches, 4 trainee coaches along with a number of parent volunteers.

As well as competitive training, the club also provides recreational classes to gymnasts from the age of 5 based on the British Gymnastics trampoline proficiency award scheme. The club aims to help children learn trampoline skills from basic jumps up to double somersaults in a safe and friendly British Gymnastics recognised environment.

Hi-Tension TC is also an accredited Essex Children’s University destination and children can log hours spent training at the club in their passports which leads to various awards.

Social & Community

Hi-Tension TC is actively involved in social/community activities which promote the sport and the club. The ethos of the club is to ensure all members demonstrate the sense of sportsmanship, enjoyment and achievement.

This is all carried out under the guidance of Head Coach, Crystelle Mills-Smith, and the club’s other experienced and highly qualified coaches.

Crystelle was awarded the prestigious title of Coach of the Year at The Sport Colchester Sports Personality of the Year Awards in 2017 and Hi-Tension TC won the sought-after Club of the Year award that same year.

The Competition Squad operates on a membership fee basis with all coaches and volunteers offering their services free of charge. Recreational classes are run as a separate entity and coaches who run those sessions are paid. Fundraising is carried out through various events including raffles, bounce-a-thons, cake stalls, etc.
